Description

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Roundtable

Since the killing of George Floyd, people across America have engaged in conversations about race and discrimination that have been candid, direct, and sometimes uncomfortable. These conversations are going on locally as well. Many of our nonprofits have begun the work of developing position statements and plans for changing practices to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations.

Spokes roundtables are facilitated peer problem solving and networking opportunities. They are not classes or workshops. They are a chance for nonprofit leaders to exchange ideas on how to meet common challenges. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, they are currently held online. Roundtables are a free benefit of Spokes membership.

Spokes roundtables begin with ground rules that include mutual respect and confidentiality.

Till now, our roundtables have focused on job-alike groups such as executive directors, board presidents, and development directors. This roundtable, by contrast, will be issue-focused. It's a chance to share what your organization is doing and find out what others are doing in this critical area.

Each member organization is invited to register up to two members.

Facilitator: Michael Simkins, Ed.D.
Michael has been a member of several nonprofit boards and served as board secretary, treasurer, and president.  His professional experience spans the education and nonprofit sectors from being a school principal in Los Osos and Cal Poly lecturer to CEO of a major Silicon Valley nonprofit. Currently, he is board president at San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and Spokes' interim CEO.
