People Management for Nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations face the same concerns related to human resources issues as for-profit organizations. Understanding essential updated employment laws and compliance issues can get complicated.  But mistakes in this area can be costly to the nonprofit and the people involved. This workshop will address the most common questions nonprofit leaders have related to human resources issues and management and will include a review of the 2020 HR updates to help you stay in compliance with HR laws.

Topics will include:

-Understanding different types of employees: exempt, non-exempt, independent contractors.

-Compliance with wage and hour obligations (what are mandatory pay minimums for each

 level?)

-Creating job descriptions, hiring, onboarding.

-Record Keeping: What documents to retain, how long, where.

-Conducting Performance Evaluations

-Training, retention, progressive discipline, and termination techniques.

-How to properly fire an employee while protecting the nonprofit.

-Unemployment issues - and more.

Facilitator: Louise Matheny is a nationally certified Senior Professional in Human Resources with a CA-specific designation, as well as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional. With over 40 years of experience and having worked with Morris and Garritano Insurance for the past 20 1/2 years, Louise has extensive experience with both small and large employer human resource operations in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors.
