Do you know how to tell if your programs are fulfilling their purpose? Can you identify key areas to improve your services? Do you know how to utilize basic research and evaluation strategies to demonstrate the impact your organization has on your community? This three-hour workshop is designed for those new to applied research and evaluation. We’ll explore how to develop sustainable internal research programs for greater program delivery. Equipped with research principals and strategies, after this class you will be able to:
-Examine existing data sources to determine whether you organization is meeting its goals.

Design and administer a survey to measure stakeholders’ perceptions of programs/services.

Develop a qualitative study to explore how your programs/services may be improved.

 

Please note: Although not a requirement for participation in this workshop, participants are encouraged to bring ideas or questions they would like examined relative to the work of their organizations. They are also encouraged to bring electronic data or drafted research instruments, if applicable.

 

Presented by Elise St. John
Elise St. John is a policy analyst specializing in mixed methods research designs and analyses. With nearly 20-years experience in social science research, she currently focuses her work upon the political and organizational dynamics of educational reform, particularly with regard to issues of equity. She received a Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Organizations and Leadership from the University of Washington, Seattle where she was a U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Predoctoral Fellow. She has authored or co-authored numerous policy reports, journal articles, and a book chapter, and presented her work at over ten national conferences. Prior to her doctoral training, Elise worked as a researcher for governmental and non-profit research organizations, and interned for the United Nations.
